As 2025 begins, it’s time for many farmers to prepare for the upcoming spring calving season. Managing paperwork can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to calf registrations and medicine compliance. Streamline calf registration
Under current regulations, calves must be registered within 27 days of their birth. Failing to do so can lead to compliance issues. Herdwatch simplifies calf registrations, allowing you to complete individual or bulk registrations quickly and accurately. Streamlining calf registrations not only saves time, but it also eliminates mistakes and ensures your records are accurate for your farm assurance inspections.
How to register a calf
- On the home screen select the ‘Calf Registration’ icon
You can also select the Orange Plus (+) Button and select ‘Calf’ - Pick the Gender
- Enter the Tag number or scan the tag using ‘Scan Tag’ button, scanning the tag only works on mobile devices
- Enter Date of Birth
- Calving Difficulty
- Pick the Dam and Sire, If you have breeding information for this Dam then Herdwatch will automatically fill the sire information
- Enter other details if necessary
Such as scheme information, Pedigree Name, Birth Weight, Genetic Dam, etc. - Tap ‘Save’ in the bottom right-hand corner
If all required details were entered, you may be asked if you want to register the calf now – but you don’t have to. - Tap “REGISTER CALF NOW”, enter your PIN and we will send the details to the Department immediately.
- You will receive a message letting you know if the registration was sent successfully or if there was any issues, which can usually be easily corrected.
Batch registration
- You will need to have created calves that need to be registered as normal
Find the steps to register a calf above. - When finished entering a calf you will be asked if you want to register now or later. Select ‘Not Now’ and continue to register the next calf
- When you are happy all their details are correct and you want to proceed with sending them in batch to the department. On the home screen select ‘Calf Registration’
- Tap ‘Register Saved Calves’
- Tap on ‘Batch Register’ at the top of the list
- Select the calves you want to register
- Once you tap “Save” and enter your Herdwatch pin the calves you have selected will be sent to your relevant department to be registered.
