Wexford \u2014 a\n        family farm with deep roots, farmed continuously since 1919. Wexford.<\/p>\n      <\/div>\n\n      <h2>Award-winning milk quality \u2014 and the work behind it<\/h2>\n\n      <p>\n        In April 2021, the Banvilles were nominated for the NDC and Kerrygold\n        National Quality Milk Awards by their Glanbia representative. They went\n        on to win the milk quality category outright \u2014 with the lowest total\n        bacterial count and the lowest cell count of all 12 finalists.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <p>\n        However, winning the award involved more than milk quality alone.\n        Sustainability, facilities, and environmental measures all formed part\n        of the judging process. Furthermore, the farm has cut its carbon\n        footprint by <strong>20% over the last four years<\/strong>. Patrick\n        explains how.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"hw-quote\">\n        &#8220;We focus on increasing the EBI of the herd \u2014 every \u20ac10 increase in EBI cuts your carbon footprint by 3%. We also spread 100% of our slurry using the LESS system and use protected urea.&#8221;\n      <\/div>\n\n      <p>\n        For the Banvilles, doing the small things right every day is what\n        underpins everything else on the farm.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"hw-quote\">\n        &#8220;We try to do everything as best we can and do the small things right \u2014 doing it every day.&#8221;\n      <\/div>\n\n      <h2>How the Banvilles found Herdwatch<\/h2>\n\n      <p>\n        Patrick and Carmel first heard about Herdwatch from a friend. Shortly\n        afterwards, they signed up at the National Ploughing Championships.\n        The process was straightforward from the start.\n      <\/p>\n\n      <div class=\"hw-quote\">\n        &#8220;The sign-up process was really easy \u2014 all the data from the Department just transferred over. There was no work from our end at all.&#8221;\n      <\/div>\n\n      <h2>Day-to-day dairy farm management: remedies, calves and movements<\/h2>\n\n      <p>\n        Before Herdwatch, Patrick handled most of the medicine recording \u2014 all\n        done by hand into a book, usually in the evening when tired. It was\n        time-consuming and easy to make mistakes. All done and dusted in a few seconds.
