Herdwatch Testimonial | Cattle Producer Kayla in Missouri

Kayla Wieczorek

Cow-Calf Rancher, Missouri

110 Holstein Friesian cows

Tell us about your operation

“My husband Jason and I run Wieczorek Farms in central Missouri. Our focus is raising cattle alongside small square bales of hay. I came into ranching with no background at all — I left a career in finance in 2020 to work full-time on the ranch — so learning fast and staying organized was critical for us.”

What are the biggest challenges of managing a cow-calf herd?

“Calving season and keeping track of individual animals is a big one. Between breeding dates, treatments, and day-to-day herd management, you need a system that keeps everything organized.”

What Herdwatch features do you use most?

“I love how easy it is to enter our individual Cattle IDs, treating multiple calves without having to re-enter every single dosage on Herdwatch. It simplifies all our ranch records.”

How has Herdwatch helped your operation?

“Herdwatch saves us time and makes it easier to stay on top of our herd. Having everything in one place helps us make better decisions and manage our cattle more efficiently every day.”

Fourth-Generation Citrus & Cattle Farmer, Central Florida

Cow-Calf Operation | Multi-Property Ranch Across Florida

How easy was it to get started with Herdwatch?

The transition was super easy. All I had to do was send Herdwatch our records, and they uploaded everything directly into the app for me. When I opened it up, everything I needed was right there at the click of a button. It made switching over completely seamless.

Can you tell us about your operation?

We’re a fourth-generation family farm based in Central Florida. My great-grandfather started the business as a citrus farm, and as we grew and bought additional properties, we expanded into cattle. Over time, as citrus declined in our area, we shifted our focus and today we’re predominantly a cow-calf cattle operation with ranches across the state.

How do you use Herdwatch day-to-day?

We use Herdwatch to keep our entire team aligned. With multiple family members working across different properties, it’s important that everyone knows what’s happening. The app helps us stay organized and keeps everything centralized so nothing gets missed.

What’s your favorite Herdwatch feature?

I really like being able to create jobs tied to specific fields or pastures. Whether it’s fixing a fence, applying fertilizer, or scheduling bush hogging, I can leave a note directly on that pasture so everyone knows what needs to be done. It keeps communication clear and our operation running smoothly.

Rachel Gabel

Commercial & Purebred Hereford Producer, Wiggins, Colorado

Spring & Fall-Calving Herds | Club Calf & Show Stock | Multi-Generational Operation

Can you tell us about your operation?

We’re a multi-generational family farm headquartered in northeastern Colorado. My husband Eric and I run both a commercial herd and a purebred Hereford herd alongside his parents. We also raise show goats and show cattle, marketing club calves through online sales and private treaty. On the registered side, we AI our top spring-calving cows and transfer embryos from elite donors. Our commercial herd runs separately, focusing on producing quality replacement females and feeder calves. It’s a diversified operation with a lot of moving parts.

Why is record keeping so important to you?

With a spring herd, a fall herd, and a goat herd — plus cattle running in different locations part of the year — there’s a lot to track. Knowing which cows were AI’d, which received embryos, which bulls they were exposed to, and where they’re located is critical. Being able to pull up one cow and see her full history — every calf, every sire, every breeding — gives us a complete picture. It helps us evaluate our AI and embryo transfer success rates and make better decisions moving forward.

How does Herdwatch help you manage all of that?

Everything is right there in your pocket. I may not be able to rattle off pedigrees like Eric can, but I can quickly pull up exactly what I need for sale listings, breeding records, or herd planning. Having a centralized place to see the big picture — and also drill down into one individual animal — makes a huge difference for our operation.

What gives you confidence using Herdwatch?

My biggest fear is losing a handwritten calving book — washing it, damaging it, or losing years of history. With Herdwatch, I know our records are safe and backed up. And the support team is incredible. If you have a question, they’re quick to respond and help you get what you need. That peace of mind alone makes it worth it.

Mike Diehl

Ranch Manager, WTO Ranch, Westhoff, Texas

150–200 Head Brangus Cow-Calf Operation | Family Ranch Since the 1880s

Can you tell us about your ranch?

The WTO Ranch has been in the family since the 1880s. Our brand, 746, comes from the founder of the ranch who was born in July of 1846. This area was part of the early cattle drive routes, and the ranch was established shortly after. Today we run between 150 to 200 mama cows in a Brangus cow-calf operation. Most of our cows are cube broke — when I pull the cube buggy around, they come running.

How do you manage your herd throughout the year?

We typically work cattle twice a year. In March, we run the cows through to spray for flies and apply pour-on wormer. At the same time, we’ll pull the calves, vaccinate them, and castrate the bull calves. With drought conditions over the past few years, monitoring body condition scores and pasture movements has been especially important. Keeping track of that information helps us manage feed and grass more effectively.

Why did you choose Herdwatch?

I had been using a competitor’s software, but I wasn’t happy with it because I had to be on a desktop computer to access it. With Herdwatch, I can use my iPhone right there in the pasture. While I’m checking cows, I can enter sickness treatments, record new calves, or update notes on the spot. That convenience makes a big difference in day-to-day ranch management.

What would you say to other ranchers considering Herdwatch?

I would most definitely recommend Herdwatch. The biggest thing for me is having everything available right there on your phone. You don’t have to wait until you get home and pull out a desktop computer. It’s simple, convenient, and built for the way we actually work cattle.
