What Is the FFIS?
The FFIS is a capital grant scheme aimed at helping Scottish farmers and crofters:

The scheme provides upfront funding to support on-farm or croft capital investments that align with these goals.
Who Can Apply?
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Be a registered farmer or crofter in Scotland
- Have submitted a Single Application Form (SAF) by 15 May 2025
- Declare at least 3 hectares (excluding common grazing shares)
- Have completed at least two Whole Farm Plan audits or plans
- Be registered with the Rural Payments and Services (RPS) system
What Can the Grant Be Used For?
Eligible capital investments include (but are not limited to):
- Renewable energy systems
- Water management and efficiency tools
- Precision farming equipment
- Infrastructure that supports biodiversity or reduces emissions
All investments must be brand new, used only on the applicant’s farm or croft, and retained for at least six years.
FFIS Grant Amounts by Farm Size:
- 30 hectares or less: Maximum grant of £5,000
- 30.01 to 150 hectares: Maximum grant of £10,000
- Over 150 hectares: Maximum grant of £20,000
Precision Farming Equipment for Beef and Sheep Farmers:
For Beef Farmers
- Automatic Cattle Weighing Systems – including Bluetooth-enabled weigh heads
- Cattle Crush (Manual or Automatic) – for safe handling
- Cattle Auto Identification (ID) Shedding Gate
For Sheep Farmers
- EID Stick Reader with RFID Technology – for individual animal identification and record-keeping
- EID Auto Drench Gun – automates drenching based on electronic ID
- Microscopes for faecal egg counting
- Lamb Chute/Cradle – for safe handling during treatments
How to Apply:
Applications must be submitted online via the Rural Payments and Services portal. The process takes around 20 minutes and requires:
- Business details
- Investment plans and costs
- Expected environmental or efficiency outcomes
If successful, applicants will receive an Offer of Grant, and have nine months to complete their investment and submit evidence.

- FFIS is competitive – not all applicants will receive funding.
- All communication will be via email, so ensure your RPS contact details are up to date.
- Grants can cover up to 100% of eligible costs.
